This is:

Hypnotherapy is the combination of the relaxation state known as "Hypnosis" and forms of psychotherapy. A "hypnotist" is someone who knows how to induce the relaxation. A "Hypnotherapist" is someone who knows the psychotherapy methods that are effective in that state.

There are a wide range of hypnotherapy methods. These include relaxation therapy, direct suggestion and affirmation, visualisation, indirect suggestion, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, Parable, Regressional Hypnotherapy, Healing Hypnotherapy, Hypno-analysis. There are further methods developed via NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). This is an offshoot of hypnotherapy and psychotherapy which claims to be a therapy in its own right, but by its own definition is merely a model of work by various therapists in the field.

Hypnotherapy can be combined with counselling, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, pastoral / spiritual counselling, Crystal Healing, Colour Therapy, Kinesiology, or indeed used on its own.

But the list is almost endless because of the number of issues that are linked to stress or emotion. Note that no claim is made to cure any medical condition. Relief my be obtained when used in conjunction with treatment by a medical doctor.

Of course Hypnotherapy is well known for helping people Stop Smoking and control Weight. It is one of the most effective methods of giving up smoking, especially when combined with motivational psychotherapy and advice sheets. as for weight loss, hypnotherapy addresses the emotional side of eating, helping the client to break bad eating patterns. It therefore helps people adhere to their chosen healthy eating and exercise plan. Note of course that weight loss can only be achieved with healthy eating and exercise.
